I was really delighted to learn that everyone enjoyed reading Father's Day by Simon Van Booy, one of the many books my almost 90 year old mother - in- law has recommended to me! We missed those who were unable to attend our April 3rd get together at City Line Diner. The
sangria and conversations flowed, from our opinions about social media to meaningful quotes from the book. Just as Harvey gave Jason special "Father's Day" gifts, we had a lot of fun opening our "Book Worm" gifts and guessing which of our books it related to.
After six year old Harvey's parents suddenly die in a car accident, a very warm hearted, hard working social worker enrolls Harvey's uncle Jason to raise her. At first it seems highly unlikely that Jason is capable of being a parent. But the transformation of Harvey and Jason was an amazing, positive experience. As Jason states while visiting Harvey in Paris truth is "not what's written on a piece of paper or in blood too small to see --- but the memory of how it felt being together."
Thank you all for the great memories!
Happy Passover!
Happy Easter!
Enjoy our Spring Break!

Hi Jill,
ReplyDeleteThank You for hosting so a lovely time at City Line. The spot was intimate and the food was gooooood! I really enjoyed the book. I loved how the relationship with Harvey and Jason developed. He made some mistakes but he really loved her and that was evident. It makes me think about our students parents. We know they may not always do what we hope they would with their kids, regarding the academics and sometimes parenting but we know they love their children. The ending was such a nice surprise, he was her real dad! Although it really wouldn't have mattered to him. The gifts wrapped was such a unique and fun activity. It was fun to reminisce our previous books. You ladies are so creative!!! I love my bookclub!!! I look forward to next month. Be Blessed!!
Mary
Enjoy the break and Happy Easter and Happy Passover
Dear Bookworms,
ReplyDeleteLoved being able to join you this time.
I was so looking forward to it. Thanks Jill for the great idea of your generous gifts. I love my Hope Rock. I really enjoyed the book. It was light yet had many messages. I thought Harvey was a great kid and so insightful, especially when she brought Jason and Vinny together.I found it cool to keep momentos to remind you of significant times in our lives. I'm going to try to be more aware of doing that, especially when I visit a new place.
Hope to see you next month but if I don't just remember, "You will always remain in my heart." Love, Maria Rego
Hi Jill,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your gifts -- you were so thoughtful! This book was so much about LOVE. Although I didn't LOVE it initially, it grew on me. Especially after our discussions. I'm a sucker for happy endings, and this book didn't disappoint!
