Our first book club read of our 2012-13 school year, was Veil of Roses by Laura Fitzgerald. I'm
happy to say everyone was able to enjoy the story. We also related to the
story as educators.
The discussion was
focused on Tami 's new found freedom in America. We talked about Tami 's search for a
husband so she would not have to return to Iran. We also discussed Tami's
relationship with her sister Maryam and Maryam's husband, Ardishir.
We really enjoyed catching up with each other -- eating hummus with pitas and many other delicious entrees -- and desserts.
Till next month,
Yvette
Hi My Favorite Bookworm Buddies!
ReplyDeleteIt was soooo good to see all of you at Blu Fig on Monday. I had been looking forward to it ALL week! Although I intended to head to Janet's Yoga class on Route 202 at 6 PM, I ended up staying until after 7 just enjoying the company of my Neary family.
Yvette thank you so much for picking this enjoyable book. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.
LOVE YOU ALL --
Robin
Hi my lovely book worm family,
ReplyDeleteIt was great to see you. I was so looking forward to seeing you to catch up and discuss the book. I enjoyed it very much! I found Tami's naivitivity to be endearing. It made me pounder about how much we take for granted in this country. I want to appreciate more the simple things like having dinner with my ladies, yet it means sooo much. And that we can as women speak freely and candidly. I look forward to our following meeting. This completes my year!, thank you for being you. Thank you Yvette for hosting.
Look forward to seeing you all again and the ones that weren't able to make it. I wish you all the best at your new schools!,,
Con mucho carino
Mary
Hi ladies,
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was awesome to see everyone again. It was fun catching up after the summer months.
Loved the book!!!!! I've been thinking about how much we do take for granted. It made me think that freedom is not just political or religious but personal. So many women and men are oppressed by others in a very subtle way, therefore it doesn't get much attention. It takes a lot of courage to not allow others to take your dream away.
By the way I just finished listening to the sequel Dreaming in English and I highly recommend it. I enjoyed it even more than Veil of Roses. So if you have a chance make sure you read it. Thanks Yvette for making such a great recommendation.
Looking forward to seeing you next month.
Love, Maria R
