Shanghai Girls

Diana welcomed 11 - (and later it became 12) - of us to her home to discuss Shanghai Girls. Another great book with a lot of deep issues to hash out. As we dined on sushi, dumplings, chinese plum candy, oranges, fortune cookies, chinese tea, and more - we couldn't stop talking! The topics included but weren't limited to: immigration, sisters and family, rape, war, and prejudice. We listened to the end of the book, when the sisters had their huge fight. We heard the rape scene again. Members shared with the group their most meaningful part of the book, which was not the same for all of us.
Diana, you were the hostess with the mostess, and it was great to discuss the sisters with so many of my Neary sisters. XXOO Robin
ReplyDeleteThank you for making me feel so welcomed at my first Neary book club. I admit I was a little nervous. I was new to the school as well as the book club. You all made me feel like I always belonged. I was so impressed and touched by your open sharing to such a powerful book about relationships. Especially the ones that these two sisters had. Now we can become the Neary sisterhood of the traveling book club.
ReplyDeleteDiana, what a lovely home you have. I told my husband I want to move there.
Thank You,
MARY
